Wegovy 7.2mg: three injections
It’s Wegovy’s highest dose, for adults with obesity if needed, after at least 4 weeks on 2.4mg. The leaflet says it is three 2.4mg injections, one after another on the same day: in the same body area if you like, but at least 5cm apart, with a new needle each time and enough pens to finish before you start.

Worth knowing
Only if needed
If it’s needed, the Wegovy leaflet says, a step up to 7.2mg can be made after a minimum of 4 weeks on 2.4mg.
Adults with obesity
Wegovy 7.2mg is for adults with obesity. For adolescents, the leaflet says doses above 2.4mg are not recommended.
Side effects at 7.2mg
The Wegovy leaflet says hair loss and changed skin sensation may happen more frequently with the 7.2mg dose.
Pens run out sooner
A 2.4mg pen holds 4 doses, and a 7.2mg dose is three injections on one day, so a pen no longer lasts 4 weeks.
Questions
Can all three go in the same area?
Yes, the leaflet says, as long as each injection is at least 5cm from the others.
Do I need a new needle each time?
Yes. The leaflet says always use a new needle for each injection, including between the three injections for 7.2mg.
What if a pen runs out partway through the three?
The leaflet says you may need more than one pen, not to throw a pen away until it’s empty, and to keep a partly used pen in the fridge with the needle removed. If the dose counter stops before your full dose, it says there isn’t enough left: dispose of the pen and use a new one.
